Inspiration Dispatch #5
Dream Work Wednesday 8/06/25
Good afternoon dreamers!
I want to apologize for the gap in inspiration this last two weeks - I’ve been working on getting my home ready for sale and subsequently caught in the maelstrom that is house showings.
Basically what that means is I’m minding my own business when I get a text that says “get out of the house!”, and then I go find somewhere with wifi. It’s all good, but it has slowed down the outputs a bit.
Anyway - you’re probably not here to learn about home sales. You’re here for inspiring work made by humans, for humans - and we’ve got a fun stack for you.
This week heavily features submissions from our readers - some of it is their work, some of it is work that has inspired them.
If you’d like to submit a project (yours or otherwise) for consideration, email: dreamwork@challengermediahouse.com
I’m curious - do you prefer to see really truly high-level work, work which feels more accessible to your current resources, or a mix?
Let’s get into it.
Welcome to the World, Baby - Huggies
The dynamic use of perspective, the integration of old photos, the juxtaposition of messy, organic visuals with a bubbling, energetic voiceover… this is the cinematic brilliance you wish you got when you were born.
Never Just a Period - Bodyform
Speaking of messages you wish you got, we’ll just leave this one right here.
There’s nothing wrong with the female body or its functions, and this film does a great job reminding us that rather than a secretive liability, your period can be a beautiful asset - that’s life.
Assume That I Can - World Down Syndrome Day
Honestly amidst all the algorithmically optimized rage bait and commercial word-salad where brands spend tons of money to say a whole lot of nothing in particular… this voice is a breath of fresh air.
Poignant, Prescient, and Punchy.
It’s a reminder that the truth is powerful, especially when you say the quiet part out loud.
What Did You Make This Year? - Gail Atkinson
At some point branded content became sales pitches disguised as documentaries, and honestly, we hate it even more than you do.
This is not that.
I keep rewatching this piece - which from one perspective is an ad for one of the biggest corporate monsters in all of America...
Despite that, it reminded me how I really feel about storytelling and brand integrations.
It reminded me that I'm not crazy for challenging the idea that the brand needs to be everywhere.
It reminded me that the story doesn't have to heavily feature the product to be a connection worth making.
It reminded me that we don't always have to talk fast and sell hard.
This is branded content done right - where you could take the Turbotax logo off and show this at at a film festival to a standing ovation. It’s not worried about being scroll-stopping, it’s busy grabbing your heart.
It's got me re-considering our approach on some upcoming projects. This sort of transformation was my hope for the inspo dispatches, I just wasn't expecting to be the first benefactor ;)
TRIGGERED-ED Short Film - Tyson Greene
Fully exploring a theme in a film can feel a lot like sublimation - where you have to BECOME the thing you’re trying to explore. The experience goes from an abstract internal experience to an embodied pile of metaphors playing out in front of a lens.
When it comes to having a brutal inner critic, it’s important to note how grating it can be to have a voice constantly slipping it’s finger nails under your skin…
Tyson nailed it.
Good Dudes Coffee - EP. 1: Washington
Silver Lining of 2020: Some of us learned new skills. I spent most of that year competing in virtual bike races. Michael Dalton learned After Effects.
“This was a Covid project - and I clearly thought it was going to be a series, because I called it episode 1. I taught myself the bulk of After Effects with this one project. It’s a little rough around the edges and silly, but I still find myself using moments of it to reference my own 2d animation progress. It was a little bright spot project during a very scary time - and it won a couple of 2d animation awards as well!” - Michael Dalton
Judah and the Lion - Behind the Band
Full disclosure: This was a happy accident. We were in boston supporting our friends in the band Fleuke when we pulled backstage to have an on-camera conversation with Judah and Brian. We talked about a lot of stuff that didn’t make the edit, but this felt like the most resonant thing in the room. It’s an exploration of success, insecurity, working hard, and committing fully to your dreams.
That’s it for Week Five!
Thank you for being a part of our mission to shift what we see in the world. To everyone who has submitted, subscribed, and told a friend, thank you. If you haven’t told a friend yet, now’s a perfect time to send this Dispatch to someone who inspires you.
You’ve given us a bit of your greatest gift, and we hope to have stewarded it well. If you have any ideas or feedback for us, don’t be a stranger.
If you want to submit your work, your friends work, or something that inspires you, email dreamwork@challengermediahouse.com and we’ll see you back here next Wednesday, when I will officially be a 32 year old man. Thanks for sharing the ride.
